2025 Staffordshire Amateur Championship
Saturday 14th June | Sandwell Park Golf Club
The 2025 Staffordshire Amateur Championship will be remembered as a landmark occasion for junior golf in the county. On a challenging day at Sandwell Park Golf Club, 14-year-old Alfie Turner produced a truly historic performance to become the youngest-ever winner of the championship, finishing three shots clear of a competitive field.
A Standout Performance from Alfie Turner
Alfie lit up the morning with a stunning opening round of 66 (-5) – the only under-par score of the day – which included six birdies and just one bogey. In blustery conditions and with demanding pin positions, his composure and ball-striking stood out as exceptional.
Although conditions in the afternoon were tougher for all players, Alfie’s second-round score of 77 was enough to maintain his lead and secure a commanding three-shot victory. His achievement marked a clean sweep of major honours, including:
James Beattie Salver – Best Gross
Legge Cup – Best Nett
Britannia Cup – Best Under 21 Gross
Best Morning Gross Score
Championship Highlights
Defending champion Ronnie Groves (South Staffordshire Golf Club) posted a solid even-par round of 71 in the morning, but had to settle for second place this year. Tom Hewitt, also of South Staffordshire, completed the top three with another consistent performance.
In the afternoon round, scoring proved more difficult. The best score of the session came from James O’Keeffe (Trentham Golf Club) and Jensen Berridge (Sandwell Park Golf Club), both carding 73 (+2).
